Mediterranean Triathlon Federation meets in Madrid

The Mediterranean Triathlon Federation visited ITU’s Madrid office to meet with ITU President and IOC Member Marisol Casado with the goal of triathlon’s conclusion in the Mediterranean Games.

The two day meeting gathered members of the Mediterranean Triathlon Federation made up of national and continental federation presidents. In attendance was (back row left to right) FET Secretary General Alicia Garcia, FITRI - ETU President Renato Bertrandi, ITU President Marisol Casado, Turkish Triathlon Federation President Halil Kilicoglu and FFTri Delegate Dominique Frizza, and (pictured: front row from left to right) Libyan Triathlon Federation President Abdullatif Eljadi, Moroccan Triathlon Federation Delegate Rachid Bennani, ETF - PanArab Triathlon Federation President Ahmed Nasser and HTF President George Yerolimpos.


The main aims addressed at the meeting included starting the bidding process to add triathlon onto the Mediterranean Games programme, a multi-sport games held every four years, mainly for nations bordering the Mediterranean Sea. Inclusion in the Games would be another important step for the development of triathlon in this region where Europe, Africa and Asia meet.  

The meeting also offered the opportunity to discuss how to improve cooperation between the Mediterranean Federations.
