Winter Tri from Petzen-Bleiburg, AUT

By World Triathlon Admin | 23 Jan, 2008

The Austrian winter resort at Petzen-Bleiburg is ready for its international winter triathlon debut this weekend on January 26th.

“The race is guaranteed. The course for cross-country skiing is prepared with artifical snow.”  said Hannes Brüger from the Petzen-Bleiburg Local Organizing Committee (LOC).

The winter triathlon season started in Valberg, France two weeks ago. Sigi Bauer of Austria and Sigrid Mutscheller of Germany won the world cup title in France at the beginning of the season. This Saturday the home favorite Bauer would like to take the opportunity to confirm his great shape just a week before the ETU Winter Triathlon European Championships to be held in Gaishorn, Austria on February 2-3. His main opponents could be the reigning European Champion, Andreas Swanebo from Sweden and the bronze medalist Daniel Antonioli from Italy. Over 60 men will line up in Petzen-Bleiburg.

In the women’s field another Austrian-Swedish duo, Carina Wasle of Austria and Eva Nytrom of Sweden could compete for a gold medal. Both of them were on the podium at the European Champs in Triensenberg-Steg, Liechtenstein last year.
