Successful seminar in Guatemala

Over 50 Event Organisers and Technical Officials gathered in Guatemala last weekend for the first ITU certification symposium of 2006. 21 countries from the Americas were in attendance and were overwhelmed with the organisation and hospitality of the Guatemalan Triathlon Federation under the leadership of Dr. Mario Rodriguez.

Enrique Quesada, Chair of the ITU Technical Committee (better known as “Mr. Stats”) plus Loreen Barnett, Executive Director of ITU delivered the 3 day symposium which emphasized the partnership between event organizers and technical officials with the goal of producing consistent ITU event that are:
- safe and fair
- television and spectator friendly
- satisfying for sponsors
- profitable for the LOC and National Federation
- leaving a strong legacy for the host city

Funding for the seminar was made possible through joint funding by the IOC Sport Department, ITU and each National Federation.

The next ITU Event Organiser and Technical Officials Symposium will take place in Doha, Qatar on 1 - 3 March for officials from the National Federations of Asia.

50 oficiales técnicos y organizadores de pruebas se reunieron en Guatemala para asistir al primer Simposio ITU de certificación.

La hospitalidad de la Federación Guatemalteca, dirigida por el Dr.Mario Rodríguez, fue recibida con entusiasmo por delegados de 21 paises.

Enrique Quesada, presidente del Comité Técnico de la ITU (también conocido como “Mr. Stats”), y Loreen Barnett, Directora Ejecutiva de la ITU dirigieron los tres días de Simposium cuyos contenidos incidían en la necesaria colaboración entre oficiales técnicos y directores de prueba, para conseguir el objetivo de producir competiciones consistentes, bajo los siguientes principios:
- Seguridad e igualdad
- Fácil de seguir para el espectador y la televisión
- Satisfactorio para lospatrocinadores
- Rentable para el organizador
- Que deje un legado.

La financiación del Seminario fue soprtada por el departamento de deportes del CIO, la ITU y las federaciones asistentes.

El próximo simposium de oficiales y organizadores, estará dirigido a las federaciones asiáticas y tendrá lugar en Doha, Qatar del 1 al 3 de Marzo.
