Oceania Triathlon

In conjunction with the new paratriathlon classification system that has been implemented in 2014, ITU has also launched paratriathlon seminars to teach officials how to classify athletes within the new system.

In cooperation with ITU, Australian external contractor Genevieve Duff, who is an experienced IPC Classifier and Facilitator for IPC Athletics, has developed educational material for the courses and for those interested in becoming paratriathlon classifiers. The material is used to educate officials from national level to international levels, and also provides the scope for re-certification of existing senior classifiers.

At the same time, ITU has been identifying key people from the existing pool of classifiers and research group to become certified as ITU Facilitators in order to ensure high standards for the delivery of such courses.

To date, facilitator courses have been held in Auckland, Mexico, Lausanne and Cape Town, while classification seminars have taken place in Melbourne and Dallas. This weekend will see the third classification seminar take place in Kitzbuehel as a part of the European Championships.

As qualification for Rio 2016 nears, ITU will continue providing classification opportunities in order to satisfy the growing demand for classifiers in paratriathlon.
