Attention in London will be on the return of Vanessa Fernandes from Portugal. The 2007 world champion and Beijing silver medallist has been off form this year as she recovered from a collarbone fracture and strain. If she is back towards her best she will be tough to overhaul.

Reigning world champion Helen Jenkins (nee Tucker) will take to the water of the Serpentine in Hyde Park looking to win on home soil at the sixth round of the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series in London.

The Brit has gradually improved throughout the year, posting her best result of fifth in both Washington DC and Kitzbhel. 2007 world junior triathlon champion, Hollie Avil, could well feature towards the front as well as she takes the confidence and experience of qualifying as a member of Team GB for last years Beijing Olympic Games into the race.

With series leader Emma Moffatt missing the race as she prepares for next months Grand Final, her fellow Australians might fancy their chances. Annabel Luxford and Erin Densham have been relatively quiet all year but are always dangerous. The New Zealanders might have something to say about their neighbours stealing the limelight and Andrea Hewitt, the Madrid winner, has shown that she can deliver on the big occasion.

One nation who have enjoyed a fantastic year are the Swiss, and their trio of European champion Nicola Spirig, Magali Di Marco, and under 23 world champion Daniela Ryf could all be in with a chance come Saturday afternoon.

Ryfs training partner, Lisa Norden, delivered a great race in Hamburg to finish second, a result she matched earlier in the year at Madrid. The Swede, who is part of the ITUs Sport Development programme, just needs to go one better to register her first win of the year. Fellow Sport Development athlete, Barbara Riveros Diaz from Chile, surprised many triathlon fans with fifth in Hamburg and she could become the South American countrys first Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series medallist.

One face not seen for a while is Japans Juri Ide. The rising star of Asian triathlon finished fifth in Beijing and looked strong in early season competition, including a third place in the opening leg of the series in Tongyeong. The flat London course could well suit her fast running style.

Su compaera en el programa, la chilena Brbara Riveros Daz, sorprendi a muchos aficionados al triatln con su quinto puesto en Hamburgo y podra convertirse en la primera sudamericana en conseguir una medalla en las Series del Campeonato del Mundo de Triatln ITU Dextro Energy.

No debemos dejar de lado a la japonesa Juri Ide. La prometedora estrella del triatln asitico termin quinta en Beijing y se mostr fuerte al inicio de la temporada con un tercer puesto en la primera de las series en Tongyeong. El recorrido de Londres le podra venir bien a su estilo de carrera a pie.
