Oceania Triathlon

Tiszaujvaros, Hungary will host the 2007 ITU Elite Team Triathlon World Championships on Sunday, August 12th.  After successfully hosting the event in 2003, the event will return to where it was debuted 4 years ago at long-time world cup host Tiszaujvaros, Hungary.  The Tiszaujvaros BG Triathlon World Cup will precede the team championships on Saturday.
We are very excited to bring the team championships back to the ITU schedule, said ITU Executive Director, Loreen Barnett.  This new racing format has become a huge hit amongst our athletes and the triathlon community and we expect that it will continue to gain momentum and support.
The new, quick-paced race format is a team relay of three team members each completing a super sprint triathlon of a 250m swim, 6.6km draft-legal cycle and 1.6km run each before handing off to their next team mate. The first team to complete the 3 x super sprint will win the title of strongest triathlon nation.  Each nation can enter two teams for men and two teams for women.  Not only is national pride at stake but also a prize purse of US$25,000, which organisers are hoping to double, that will be awarded to the top three teams equally to both men and women.
As part of the ongoing initiative to get more athletes on the Olympic programme, ITU introduced the team format in Tiszaujvaros in 2003 and the fast and spectator-friendly format instantly became popular amongst the athletes and spectators. 

The goal of the ITU is to increase the international exposure and participation of our sport and by introducing a format such as the team-relay, we hope to eventually get the discipline in the Olympics Games, commented Barnett.  Similar to swimming and athletics we would have a triathlon relay format in the Games enabling more athletes and countries to take part in the Olympic experience.
The course for this years event will be the same as 2003 with athletes swimming in the city lake with the bike and run course in city centre.  The 25,000 spectators that consistently attend the world cup will have a stadium-like experience on the unique course, being able to see the entire swim, bike and run from their seats in the park.  Thousands of people flock to the small Northern Hungarian town every year.

Despus del xito que tuvo la competicin en 2003, la Copa del Mundo regresa a donde debut 4 aos atrs, Tiszaujvaros, Hungra. La Copa del Mundo de Triatln BG de Tiszaujvaros preceder al Campeonato por equipos el sbado.
Estamos muy entusiasmados de traer otra vez el campeonato por equipos al programa ITU, dijo la directora ejecutiva de la ITU, Loreen Barnett. Este nuevo formato de carrera ha tenido una enorme repercusin entre nuestros atletas y la comunidad del triatln y esperamos que siga obteniendo fuerza y apoyo

El nuevo, formato rpido y compacto establecido es una prueba por equipos de tres miembros cada equipo para completar un triatln super sprint de 250 m a nado, 6.6km en bicicleta con el drafting permitido y 1.6km de carrera a pie antes de dar el relevo a su compaero. El primer equipo en completar los 3 x super sprint ganar el ttulo de nacin ms fuerte en triatln. Cada nacin puede inscribir a dos equipos masculinos y a 2 equipos femeninos. No slo est el orgullo nacional en juego sino que tambin hay una bolsa de premios de 25,000$, los cuales los organizadores esperan doblar, que sern repartidos a los tres primeros equipos- de forma equitativa para hombres y mujeres.

Como parte de la iniciativa en marcha para conseguir ms atletas en el programa olmpico, ITU introdujo el formato del equipo en Tiszaujvaros en 2003 y el formato rpido y fcil de seguir lleg a ser inmediatamente popular entre los atletas y los espectadores.

El objetivo del ITU es aumentar la imagen y la participacin internacional de nuestro deporte y introduciendo un formato como el de relevos por equipos, esperamos conseguir algn da que sea incluida en los Juegos Olmpicos, coment Barnett. Similar a la natacin y al atletismo tendramos un triatln de relevos en los Juegos permitiendo a ms atletas y pases formar parte en la experiencia Olmpica

El recorrido de este ao de la carrera ser el mismo que en 2003 con los atletas nadando en el lago de la ciudad y corriendo con la bicicleta y a pie por el centro de la ciudad. Los 25,000 espectadores que presencien la Copa del Mundo tendrn la sensacin de encontrarse en un estadio en un recorrido nico, pudiendo ver la natacin entera, la bicicleta y la carrera a pie desde sus asientos en el parque. Miles de personas se renen en la ciudad del norte de Hungra cada ao.
