Level 1 Coaching Course in Solomon Islands a great success

By Oceania Triathlon | 16 Nov, 2016

Recently, ITU Facilitator, Peter Clifford presented a Level 1 Coaching Course in Honiara, Solomon Islands. Honiara hosts a vibrant local triathlon environment with great coaching, administration and a strong group of athletes. This is evident in their good representation of athletes in Team OTU, the Junior and U23 Development project.

At the 5 day course, participants were asked to spend each day learning the theory of triathlon and also spend a lot of time working on the practical coaching aspect. In the practical coaching sessions, each coach is asked to present a 15 minute session to the other candidates, after which they would receive feedback on their coaching to improve upon in the next session. The last day of the course is their final practical coaching task which is done as part of the final assessment.

President of the Solomon Islands Triathlon Federation, Joe Au Ramosaea, who was one of the coach candidates praised the new course and it’s content. “With this course being run in our home country we will now be able to have more coaches helping out our National Coach, Nathan Thompson Siofa. This will allow us to produce more great athletes on our way to participating in the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.”
